Loosening method of oxide skin of stainless steel spring
2022-11-11
The stainless steel spring after heat treatment is attached with a layer of dense oxide skin, which is mainly composed of chromium oxide, nickel oxide and iron chromium oxide. To remove this oxide scale, three main processes should be followed: loosening the oxide scale, etching and removing the etching residue on the spring surface.
There are several ways to loosen the oxide skin of stainless steel spring:
1. Soak in 110g/L nitric acid at room temperature for about an hour.
2. Use 700g/L sodium hydroxide solution, heat it to about 145 ℃, use spring as anode, and electrolyze it for about 10 minutes with a current of 10 A/dm2.
3. Use 700g/L sodium hydroxide and 200g/L sodium nitrate solution to heat to about 145 ℃ and soak for one hour.
If the oxide scale is not loosened first, it is difficult to remove it even if the etching time is very long, and the base metal will be corroded because the oxide scale is thick and tight.
